James Mark McAvoy is a CGA and co-founder of the Victoria CGA firm McAvoy, Rule and Co.
Mr. McAvoy obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria in 1972. He went on to earn his professional designation as a Certified General Accountant in 1980. This was granted by The Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, and The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia.
Professional experience includes: working with Victoria CGA firm KR Genn & Co. (1972 – 1974) and the Audit Division of Canada Revenue Agency (1974 – 1981). He co-founded McAvoy Rule & Company in 1981. He remains an active partner there today. Along with partners Kathie Logozar and Neil Wright, their firm focuses on Income Tax Returns, CRA audits, and financial statements of small businesses and individuals.
James hales from Rossland, BC but has lived most of his life in Victoria, BC. He has been married to Constance McAvoy for 32 years. James treasures their five children and seven grandchildren. They live in the Victoria community of Oak Bay.
McAvoy is a two-time Canadian Bridge Champion, most recently in 2011. He has played for Canada in five World Championships in Europe, Central America the US and Canada. He and his wife, also a bridge champion, won the Open Pairs Competition at the Caribbean and Central America Championships in Panama in early 2013.
James’ charitable interests include: Victoria Vipers Baseball, the YMCA, Big Brothers and Sisters of Victoria, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
